The Gospel is about transformation-the transformation of our lives by the life of Christ within us. We have to ask ourselves: Do our lives reflect the grace, truth, and love we have received through Christ?* *shine

Okay I know that some people may say that I am a little bias but I know that I have the cutest kids in the world.

I mean just look at them.

The children are all as different as night and day.

I have the sweet shy ones who duck their little heads whenever I speak to them.

I have the loud demanding ones who will shout across the room.

I have the helpful ones who look to assist with any task no matter how great or small.
I have the ones who I can not get to even throw their own trash in a can without a little “encouragement”.

I have those that are so sensitive that a simple look of displeasure can bring tears.

I have others that laugh at a stern talking to and then dance away.

I have little ones that will cry when I look at them.

I have little ones that cling to me whenever I am there.

I try to love them and encourage them, to build them up and show them that they are special children loved by me and more importantly loved by Christ.

I end up feeling like the one who is loved by them and more importantly by Christ.

Alex and Walter

Alex is a special little boy that lives in Mololoa. He just started school this year thanks to some very generous people in the states. Alex has a younger brother named Walter and they are two of the many who have wiggled their little selves into my heart.

They are so sweet to greet me with a big hug and kiss and it is pretty much guaranteed that Walter will be filthy. I have to admit a few times I have flinched a little when he runs at me with lips puckered up and his little face covered in spaghetti sauce. I mean I wonder if the child actually hit his mouth with the spaghetti or if he just kind of rubbed it around on his face. But he is so happy to see me and so very excited calling Alisha, Alisha (Melissa) that I always grab him up for my hug and kiss.

Alex is a little more reserved and usually hugs my legs and ducks his head.

Alex and Walter started coming to Sunday Class last year. When they first started to come they would quietly sit at the tables and not say much. Neither boy could do even the simplest of crafts and I had to put them on “glue watch” as them were eating more glue than normal. I would have someone sit with them and help them with the projects.

These are the boys that I found sitting under the tables eating paper one day. I mean eating paper, not merely tasting it or sampling a little bite but eating it. I talked to their mother and found out they had not been eating. She was to the point of giving them up as there was nothing to feed them and no hope of getting work for herself. As usual people have some through and Nenci has been able to keep her children.

They come to the kitchen everyday and they are able to get help with food, water and medical care.
They both participate so much more in class now and Alex has started kindergartener and is doing wonderful. I see such a difference in these boys over the last few months.

Thanks to the caring and the on going support of this small family I see a shine in their eyes, they are active and healthy, they laugh and smile and their social skills are improving. In fact I have seen so much progress they have been taken off of “glue watch”. Thank you for letting me be the hands that get to deliver this food in the name of the Father. Thank you for letting me be the one to get great big hugs and dirty kisses from two sweet little boys with lots of love to share. Thank you for making it possible for them to go to bed with full bellies. Thank you for giving them a chance at an education. Thank you for being a biblical example in providing for the poor, for giving in a quite and unassuming manner with all joy. I know that no thanks are necessary but I want you to know that the mothers and the children thank God for their provisions and they thank God for you……….So do I.

Sunday Afternoon Outreach

Every Sunday at 2:00 we have a Bible class for children ages up to 12 years old. It is a wonderful way to spend your Sunday afternoons. Telling Christ’s beautiful little children how much they are loved and wanted by a father in heaven

We start by gathering in a large circle. We all pray together and then sing a few songs. We have been working on a few songs in English and I have to say that my little ones seem to pick things up rather quickly. Some of the songs are rather lively, they can beat me in head shoulders, knees and toes in Spanish and English. I think Jen is the fastest of all of us. They have soccer games down below us every Sunday and blare music on large speakers but that does not faze my little guys from singing their hearts out in praises to the father.

We then have the lesson time in which Jen and Evelyn teach bible lessons to the children. Evelyn is invaluable working with the kiddos and Jen is great to energize the class. After the class the kiddos work on different craft projects. They love the chance to make a variety of crafts. They rarely get to make any kind of projects in school as they do not have the money or time available to foster the creative side that is just waiting to be tapped in these little ones.

When we first started we had such a time. Even some of our older children did not even have the basic skills of cutting with a pair of scissors They felt like they had to make each craft exactly like the sample project and they were so worried that they would make a mistake that they would not even try to do it. And the older kids would take the things away from the younger ones because they wanted to do it for the younger ones so that they would not “mess” up. It has taken a while and a lot of encouragement to make their own things and to allow the little ones to do it themselves even if it is not “perfect”. That a lion can be purple and that is great. It is so wonderful to watch them gain confidence and to start having fun and not worry about coloring in the lines. We make bulletin boards out of their projects. They love to see their work up on the walls and take the time to point it out to their friends that come to the kitchen . I love to watch them point out their work and seeing the pride on their little faces.

We have small spiral notebooks that we glue weekly bible verses into. The children get a star every week in the attendance book for coming to class, a star for bringing their books and a star for memorizing the verse. They can get up to three stars a week and after 12 stars for the older kids and 8 for the little ones they get to chose a prize out of the prize box. Prize box is a big day. It is hard to work with such a wide age range but Jen is great to help out the young ones and there is quite a few kids who do not have any education at all and need a little extra help and she does it in a quite way to not embarrass them.

We send a snack home with them and usually a coloring sheet.

It is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, I am blessed to have this responsibility.
