The Gospel is about transformation-the transformation of our lives by the life of Christ within us. We have to ask ourselves: Do our lives reflect the grace, truth, and love we have received through Christ?* *shine

Sunday Afternoon Outreach

Every Sunday at 2:00 we have a Bible class for children ages up to 12 years old. It is a wonderful way to spend your Sunday afternoons. Telling Christ’s beautiful little children how much they are loved and wanted by a father in heaven

We start by gathering in a large circle. We all pray together and then sing a few songs. We have been working on a few songs in English and I have to say that my little ones seem to pick things up rather quickly. Some of the songs are rather lively, they can beat me in head shoulders, knees and toes in Spanish and English. I think Jen is the fastest of all of us. They have soccer games down below us every Sunday and blare music on large speakers but that does not faze my little guys from singing their hearts out in praises to the father.

We then have the lesson time in which Jen and Evelyn teach bible lessons to the children. Evelyn is invaluable working with the kiddos and Jen is great to energize the class. After the class the kiddos work on different craft projects. They love the chance to make a variety of crafts. They rarely get to make any kind of projects in school as they do not have the money or time available to foster the creative side that is just waiting to be tapped in these little ones.

When we first started we had such a time. Even some of our older children did not even have the basic skills of cutting with a pair of scissors They felt like they had to make each craft exactly like the sample project and they were so worried that they would make a mistake that they would not even try to do it. And the older kids would take the things away from the younger ones because they wanted to do it for the younger ones so that they would not “mess” up. It has taken a while and a lot of encouragement to make their own things and to allow the little ones to do it themselves even if it is not “perfect”. That a lion can be purple and that is great. It is so wonderful to watch them gain confidence and to start having fun and not worry about coloring in the lines. We make bulletin boards out of their projects. They love to see their work up on the walls and take the time to point it out to their friends that come to the kitchen . I love to watch them point out their work and seeing the pride on their little faces.

We have small spiral notebooks that we glue weekly bible verses into. The children get a star every week in the attendance book for coming to class, a star for bringing their books and a star for memorizing the verse. They can get up to three stars a week and after 12 stars for the older kids and 8 for the little ones they get to chose a prize out of the prize box. Prize box is a big day. It is hard to work with such a wide age range but Jen is great to help out the young ones and there is quite a few kids who do not have any education at all and need a little extra help and she does it in a quite way to not embarrass them.

We send a snack home with them and usually a coloring sheet.

It is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon, I am blessed to have this responsibility.
